Our Vermont South School of Physical Culture comes under the auspices of Bjelke-Petersen Bros. (BJP) in Sydney with numerous clubs spread across the Eastern States. Vermont South is a well established and successful Melbourne Club with Teams competing in Championship Grade and many girls competing at National level each year.
Our Club motto of "Fun, Fitness and Friendship" underlies our aim for Physie girls to Enjoy a fabulous after-school dance activity without pressure. Secondly, to establish good Posture and deportment and thirdly, for overall physical Fitness developing balance, co-ordination and muscle tone.
Physical Culture or Physie (pronounced fizzy) is a combination of dance styles to a variety of modern music and includes:
* Marching
* Aerobic exercises
* Classical ballet
* Jazz ballet
* Gymnastics
all rolled into one great fitness activity for all ages.
Combining these elements teaches the relationship of music to movement, rhythm, self discipline, coordination, balance and musical interpretation.
The exercise and dance routines are taught from a syllabus set by BJP and graded with degree of difficulty according to age group and child ability. Each age groups' routine include these set components to modern music :
Marching for posture and deportment,
Warm-Up aerobic style for cardio fitness and strength,
Breathing for posture and balance,
Exercises for precision and flexibility
Relaxed for gentle classical ballet movement
Floor Drill for flexibility along gymnastics lines
Dance for a fun finish with a jazz theme the girls love.
Physical Culture is open to all ages from grils as young as 3yrs to adults. Competitions are offered to all girls, but are not compulsory. Although, being in a team or competing individually, promotes a sense of belonging, club spirit and loyalty as well as helping to build great friendships that last for years.
Fees are reasonable and girls are welcome to come and watch or join in for a couple of lessons to see if they like it.
